Suffragette Campaigns, Drum and Fife Band
Photographic postcard, Suffragette campaign, Drum and Fife Band.
The WSPU formed a fife and drum band in 1909. With Mary Leigh as the drum-major, the band had 20 members by April and met three times a week to practice. The band's first public appearance was at the Women's Prince's Rink Exhibition in May 1909. Band-members wore a striking purple, white and green uniform.
