Postcard, portrait postcard
Postcard with photographic portrait of a woman in an embroidered tunic and cap with a string of beads around her neck which she holds. It is signed below 'Yvonne Gough' or 'Clough','Sept. 15, 1917". On the back is handwritten, 'To dear Miss Turner with affectionate regards'. The recipient Minnie Turner was a member of the Women's Social and Political Union and of the Tax Resistance League. She ran her home at Sea View, Victoria Road, Brighton as a boarding house specifically aimed at Suffragettes. Advertising in suffrage newspapers such as 'Votes for Women' she urged ‘Suffragettes spend your holidays in Brighton, central. Terms moderate.’
