Printed Ephemera — 1912
Postcard, portrait postcard
Postcard with photographic portrait of Flora Drummond with her son Keir Hardie. On the reverse is handwritten 'Mrs Drummond and Keir Hardie June 6th,1912'.
Drummond (1879-1949), was an Organiser and senior figure within the Women's Social and Political Union. She was one of its original members. In 1906 she moved with Annie Kenney from Manchester to London and became a salaried Organiser for the WSPU. By 1908 Flora was in charge of the WSPU Office at Clement's Inn. After a spell working as Organiser in Glasgow Drummond returned to London in 1911 and was put in charge of the organisation of the local WSPU unions throughout the country. Flora was imprisoned on nine occasions for militancy. Referred to as the 'General' by her fellow suffragettes Flora was a keen horsewoman and often rode in processions wearing her military style regalia. In 1908 Flora was discharged from prison owing to her pregnancy. Drummond named her only son, seen her in this portrait, Keir Hardie Drummond, after the Labour Party MP Keir Hardie.
