Postcard with photographic portrait of Flora Drummond (1879-1949), organiser and senior figure within the Women's Social and Political Union. Drummond was one of the original members of the WSPU. In 1906 she moved with the Pankhursts from Manchester to London and became a paid organiser for the campaign. She was imprisoned 9 times for militancy, once serving three weeks for chaining herself to the railings of 10 Downing Street. Nicknamed the 'General' by her fellow suffragettes, Drummond was a keen horsewoman.
Christina Broom was a professional photographer who produced a series of London street views for sale as postcards. She later photographed the activities of the suffrage movement in London and is considered one of the earliest female press photographers.
