Printed Ephemera — 1784
Trade card, invoice, flyer
Engraved trade card in the form of an advertising flyer with a handwritten invoice. Issued by Gould and Squire, wine and brandy merchants located at the 'old original raisin wine and brandy warehouse' at the Two spies Catherine street, in the Strand. The flyer includes an engraving of the tradesman's sign depicting 'Two spies' carrying a 'cluster' of grapes and printed details of wine and spirits imported and supplied by the firm including Jamaica rum, French brandy & Holland Geneva. It also claims to despatch goods 'all over the country' from its London warehouse. Such businesses represented London's role as 'warehouse of the world'.
