Photograph of suffragette Constance Antonia Boyle, known as Nina Boyle. In the early 1900s she lived in South Africa, working as a journalist and founding the Women’s Enfranchisement League of Johannesburg. She returned to England in 1911 and immediately joined the Women’s Freedom League. Her militancy led to arrest on 5 separate occasions and imprisonment on 3. She is known for her campaigns to improve the conditions in which women were transported to and from prison in vans. She established the Women’s Police Volunteers, a unit established to help women working as street prostitutes.
