Nail
This nail comes from St Luke's Church in Old Street. The church was built as part of the Commission for Fifty New Churches which was set up in 1711 to help increase the number of places of worship after the destruction caused by the Great Fire of London. St Luke's has an unusual obelisk tower thought to have been designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor. The building was completed in 1733. The church was prone to subsidence and has been restored a number of times. It suffered some damage in the Blitz and the roof of the church was removed in 1959. Recently, the church has been restored and converted into a rehearsal space for the London Symphony Orchestra.
