Printed Ephemera — 1782-07-18
Invoice
Handwritten invoice issued by the linen draper Webster and Corbett, located at 55 Friday Street. Dated 18th July 1782 the invoice refers to the supply of brown irish linen, purple buckram, printed cotton and pocketlinings to the retail drapery firm of John Thomas and Company based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Similarly to other county drapers J. Thomas and Co ordered cloth from London wholesalers, such as Webster & Corbett, who liaised directly with the cotton manufacturers. Many London wholesalers would display their goods in showrooms that also received retail customers.
