Printed Ephemera — 1824
The Trials and Sentences of all Prisoners, Tried at the Old Bailey Sessions
Criminal broadside printed with the names, crimes and sentences of the prisoners tried at the Old Bailey in the sessions that commenced on February 18th 1824. The broadside reports that 200 prisoners were due to go on trial that sessions and gives details of the 26 males and 1 female prisoners who were tried on the first day. The broadside concludes with a moral poem.
The printer is unknown but such broadsides were published by a small number of printers many of whom, such as Thomas Birt, James Catnach and James Pitts were based around the Seven Dials area of London. Spelling and grammar was often poor and the details not always accurate.
