Sir Christopher Wren's Plan for Rebuilding the City of London after the dreadfull Conflagration in 1666
Sir Christopher Wren's plan for rebuilding the City of London after the Great Fire of 1666. Engraved for 'A new and universal history: description and survey of the cities of London and Westminster, the Borough of Southwark etc.' by Walter Harrison, 1776. Just six days after the fire, Wren showed his rebuilding plan to the king. It included long, wide streets, a canal for the Fleet River, a straight quayside and large squares. The buildings were in neat blocks. Wren’s design was never built but some elements of it were used, such as improvements to the quayside by the Thames.
