On the Death of Her Royal Highnefs the Princess Charlotte of Wales
In 1817, Princess Charlotte, the only child of George IV, died five hours after giving birth to a stillborn son. Her tragic death was greatly mourned by the British public. This mourning card issued 'On the Death of Her Royal Highness the Princess Charlotte of Wales' has a 12 line verse by Mary Edwards. It is illustrated with a mourning Britannia and Prince leaning against a tomb, with a portrait roundel of the Princess with the words below 'Hope is Fled'.
