Printed Ephemera — 1836
Poster for entertainments at the Rosemary Branch Tavern and Tea Gardens, Islington
The Rosemary Branch Tavern’s large tea garden and pond became popular pleasure gardens in the 19th century. Concerts were held in the gardens as well as in the tavern and artists such as Marie Lloyd and Little Titch performed here. This poster is advertising a performance of Madame Rossini’s tightrope walking skills. Entertainers such as jugglers, cyclists, acrobats and tightrope walkers were popular with Victorian pleasure seekers.
