Pope John XXII
Lead seal impression, known as a bulla, bearing the seal of Pope John XXII. Lead seals like this come from documents called 'indulgences'. Issued by the Pope, these were believed to reduce the time the dead person's soul had to spend in Purgatory. Pope John XXII. Inscription on one side, and on the other, two bearded faces with inscription above reading 'SPASPE'.
