Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; 14th-15th century
Bracer
Archer's leather wrist-guard with leaf decoration. In 1498, the gardens north of the City were destroyed to make a plain field for archery, and over 200 permanent butts were set up for target practice in Finsbury and Shoreditch fields. Henry VIII decreed that all males aged between 7 and 60 had to practice archery.
