Saxon & Medieval — Saxon
Game piece, counter
This game piece or counter is made of bone. It is decorated on one face with concentric circles and ring of circles and dots. Some of the undecorated face is missing, revealing cancellous (spongy) bone.
This counter was probably used in the game known as 'Tables', which was a game like modern backgammon, in which you threw dice and moved the counters along a board. Board games of various types, including Tables, were very popular in late Anglo-Saxon and Norman times.
