Mercurius Politicus
Bound volume of newspapers including numbers 602-615 of 'Mercurius Politicus: Comprising the sum of foreign intelligence with affairs now on foot in the Three Nations', dating from 5 January 1659 to 17 January 1661. Mercurius Politicus was a government-sponsored weekly publication founded in 1650 by the author and journalist Marchamont Needham as a political mouthpiece for the Commonwealth administration. Amongst the miscellaneous announcements in the paper is this notice from issue number 608 dated 16th-23rd February 1660 (page 1119) urging readers to apprehend a man named Paul Joliffe for the murder of Edward Horwood in return for a reward.
