Priory of St Bartholomew
Replica seal impression of the Priory of St Bartholomew, in yellow wax and set into white plaster, inside an oval wooden box. The original seal was dated to the medieval period, around the 12th century. It depicts St Bartholomew standing behind a church, raising his right hand in blessing. He holds a staff topped by a cross in his left hand. Around the edge is a legend in Latin, though not all the lettering has survived. It originally would have been 'Sigillum conventus ecclesiae sancti Bartholomei Apostoli de Lundon' (meaning 'Seal of the convent of the church of St Bartholomew the Apostle of London'). The original seal was pressed into wax to authenticate official priory documents.
