Negative, glass plate
The unveling ceremony of the Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace, performed by King George V and his cousin, Wilhelm II of Germany, on 16 May 1911. Rows of chairs have been provided for the spectators.
Broom's photograph shows Edward Blore's 1850 East Front of the palace, which was replaced by Aston Webb's now familiar facade in 1913.
Christina Broom was a professional photographer who produced a series of London street views for sale as postcards. She later photographed the activities of the suffrage movement in London and is considered one of the earliest female press photographers.
