Chelsea Hospital founded by Charles II in 1682 as a home for old and disabled soldiers. It was designed by Christopher Wren. The central obelisk in this image was erected in memory of the men who died at Chilianwalla in 1849 during the Anglo-Sikh wars.
Christina Broom was a professional photographer who produced a series of London street views for sale as postcards. She later photographed the activities of the suffrage movement in London and is considered one of the earliest female press photographers.
