Photography — 1903-1910
Melbury Road, W.
Melbury Road, near Holland Park. There is an early motor car parked behind a lamp post on the left. This road was in a neighbourhood where many artists resided during the late 19th century. The painter Luke Fildes lived in Melbury Road, which runs parallel to Holland Park Road where artist Frederic Leighton had his home.
Christina Broom was a professional photographer who produced a series of London street views for sale as postcards. She later photographed the activities of the suffrage movement in London and is considered one of the earliest female press photographers.
