Kensington Gardens - The Broad Walk
The Broad Walk in Kensington Gardens with people strolling or resting on benches. In the mid distance women carrying parasols are visible. The layout of the park has changed little since 1728, when Queen Caroline, wife of George II, employed Charles Bridgeman to redesign Kensington Gardens. The main path, called the Broad Walk, became a fashionable place to be seen.
Christina Broom was a professional photographer who produced a series of London street views for sale as postcards. She later photographed the activities of the suffrage movement in London and is considered one of the earliest female press photographers.
