Photography — 1903
Negative, glass plate
The New Gaiety Theatre built on the corner of Aldwych and the Strand. 'The Orchid', which is showing there, was the first play to be performed in the new theatre in October 1903. It starred musical comedy actress Gertie Millar. The new building replaced the original Gaiety Theatre which closed in July 1903 when the Strand was redeveloped.
Christina Broom was a professional photographer who produced a series of London street views for sale as postcards. She later photographed the activities of the suffrage movement in London and is considered one of the earliest female press photographers.
