Printed Ephemera — 1690-1691
Proclamation
Proclamation reinforcing the terms of an earlier act that required all householders 'to hang our candles or lights' in lanterns on the outside of their houses from Michaelmas to Lady Day for the 'convenience of passengers'. The Proclamation refers to householders persistent refusal to light their houses, pay for street lights or pay the fine imposed for non-compliance of the act and urges Justices of the Peace, Constables and Officers to enforce the law.
