The Fountain
George Hopkins, a vintner, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Holborn, near Hatton Garden, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1425; Obv inscription: GEORGE.HOPKINS.VINTNER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / 1669 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: HOLBVRN.NEAR.HATEN.GARDEN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A fountain (in field).
Holborn, was formerly part of Middlesex, and now lies within the London Borough of Camden.
