Printed Ephemera — 1908
Group of Suffragettes in Prison Dress
Suffragettes in replica prison clothing, 7th November 1908. The group were preparing to take part in a rally and procession to Holloway prison organised by Flora Drummond who can be seen on the far right of the photograph. The event was intended to raise the morale of Suffragette prisoners, including Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst serving sentences in Holloway and, most significantly, achieve publicity for the campaign. Flora had been sentenced alongside Christabel and Emmeline to three months imprisonment in October 1908 for incitement but was released nine days into her sentence when it was discovered she was pregnant.
Also in the photograph can be seen Georgina Brackenbury on the far left, holding the tricolour flag.
