A Committee Meeting of the Suffragette Leaders, 1907
Photograph of the leaders of suffragette organisation the Women's Social and Political Union. From left to right they are Christabel Pankhurst, Jessie Kenney, Nellie Alma Martel, Emmeline Pankhurst and Charlotte Despard.
Handwritten in pencil on the back are the names of the women pictured and ‘A special meeting of the Committee of the Council was held today to consider the future policy of the suffragettes. Held at the offices of the Women’s Social and Political Union’. Written in ink in the top left corner is ‘1907’.
The WSPU campaigned for female suffrage from 1903 to 1914. In 1907 a number of members who disagreed with WSPU policy broke away to form the Women’s Freedom League.
