Printed Ephemera — C. 1911
Group of Suffragettes in the Costume of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales
Suffragettes dressed in the national costume of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales preparing for a procession. It is possible these Suffragettes were taking part in the Coronation Procession of 17th June 1911.
The wearing of national costumes at Suffragette processions added to the visual appeal of the spectacle and helped to draw large crowds. Such a policy was also intended to show the government that the Suffragette campaign was a mass movement supported by women throughout the British Isles.
