Cat belonging to the Suffragette Janie Terrero
The master referred to in the image is Janie's husband Manuel Terrero, a member of the Men's Political Union For Women's Enfranchisement. Janie joined the Women's Social and Political Union in 1908 becoming Honorary Secretary of the Pinner branch in 1910. The imprisonment referred to in the photograph was for Janie's part in the WSPU window-smashing campaign of March 1912. Convicted of smashing 4 plate glass windows at Messrs Steddalls in Oxford Street, a manufacturing retailer of women's ready to wear clothing Janie was sentenced to four months in Holloway prison While in prison Janie joined the Suffragette prison hunger strike and was forcibly fed by the authorities.
