London Cry
Doll representing a male pedlar. With head of painted and stuffed leather and bead eyes, a stuffed body and arms, leather hands and wooden peg legs. The pedlar is dressed in cotton trousers and wool jacket and painted card hat. He carries a large tray of plaited cotton cord for the display of his wares. This includes miniature braces, earrings, brooches, perfume boddles battledore racquets and shuttlecock and face screens. The doll is attached to a wooden plinth which is secured to a circular wooden base. A glass dome would have been fitted over the base to protect the doll from dust. This implies it would have been displayed on a mantleshelf, perhaps in the home of the person who made it.
