Printed Ephemera — 1913
Modern chivalry
Pro-Female Suffrage propaganda poster, 'Modern chivalry'. Designed and printed at the Suffrage Atelier, the poster shows a knight carrying a 'Votes for Women' jousting stick, thereby referring to the anti-suffragist argument that men are simply being chivalrous and protective by shielding women from political life.
The Suffrage Atelier was founded in London in February 1909, and aimed 'to encourage Artists to forward the Women's Movement, and particularly the Enfranchisement of Women, by means of pictorial publications'.
