Printed Ephemera — 1929-1930
With Best Wishes
Christmas card with postcard insert with photographic image of Una Duval (1880-1975) in court dress. On the front is a design showing a sunburst and bells with the message 'WIth best Wishes'. Inside is a printed message: 'With the Season's Greetings and a wish that the New Year may prove happy to you and yours', signed by Una Duval.
Una Duval was born Una Dugdale to wealthy parents who both supported women's suffrage. By 1907 she had joined the Women's Social and Political Union. Dugdale worked for the WSPU in Aberdeen, London and Brighton and was imprisoned on one occasion after a 'raid' on the House of Commons. In 1912 she married Victor Duval, founder of the Men's Political Union for Women's Enfranchisement . The couple caused controversy when the bride refused to say the word 'obey' as part of her wedding vows. Una Duval wrote a pamphlet 'Love and Honour - but not Obey' which was published in the same year.
