Beatrice Harraden
Postcard with photographic portrait of Beatrice Harraden. Below is written 'Beatrice Harraden. Photograph by Alice Boughton N.Y.' The sitter has signed the front of the card.
Beatrice Harraden (1864-1936) joined the Women's Social and Political Union in 1906 and the Women Writer's Suffrage League in 1908. In 1912-13 she was a committee member of the Hampstead branch of the WSPU. Harraden supported a number of other suffrage organisations, including the Tax Resistance League. In 1914, after a dispute with Christabel Pankhurst, Harraden left the WSPU. She joined the Votes for Women Fellowship run by Emmeline and Frederick Pethick-Lawrence, two former senior figures within the WSPU who also broke away due to disagreements with the Pankhursts.
