Printed Ephemera — 1909-1914
Women's Suffrage and Prejudice
Pro-female suffrage black and white propaganda postcard. Here women's suffrage is depicted as an Angel pushing back prejudice in the guise of the Devil. In the background can be seen the Houses of Parliament. The postcard is signed Poyntz Wright. This is probably a pseudonym for an artist who regularly designed propaganda postcards for the Suffrage Atelier.
The righteous cause of female Suffrage was often represented symbolically through the virtuous and inspiring Angel.
