Printed Ephemera — 1914
Great Open-Air Demonstration at Ladybank
Printed handbill announcing a Suffragette demonstration at Ladybank in Fife, Scotland to be held on Saturday 4th April 914. The flyer notes that leading Suffragettes Elizabeth Grew, Agnes Kelly, Leonora Tyson, Lilias Mitchell and Miss Burn Murdock were scheduled to speak at this open-air meeting and demonstration. This event probably relates to the imminent by-election in East Fife caused by the appointment of the local MP Herbert Asquith as War Minister, in anticipitation of the outbreak of war. The Women's Social and Political Union campaigned at by-elections throughout the country to urge voters to vote against the Liberal candidate who, in this case, was also the despised Prime Minister Asquith.
