Printed Ephemera — 1916
Women's War Procession, Victoria Embankment. Women's Social and Political Union.
Printed handbill announcing a Women's War Procession through London on Saturday 22nd July 1916. Organised by the Women's Social and Political Union with the support of the Government the procession was intended to encourage women to increase their support for the war effort. This event was organised at a time when enthusiasm for the war was beginning to diminish with increased casualties on the Front and Zeppelin raids on London. The flyer carries a hardline message particularly against 'enemy aliens' and the possibility of a compromise peace. The event included groups of women war workers dressed in their work clothes, including munitions workers.
