Printed Ephemera — 1906-05-20
Franchise Demonstration organised by Lancahsire and Cheshire Working Women.
Printed handbill announcing the 'Lancashire and Cheshire Working Women's Franchise Demonstration' to be in Hyde Park on Sunday 20 May 1906. The demonstration included female delegates from a number of northern trades listed on the handbill. Speakers at the event included some of the most influential female politicians, trade union activists and non-militant suffragists including Eva Gore-Booth and Selina Cooper. The event appears to have been organised by group entitled 'Political Power for Women Workers' based at 18 Buckingham Street. Interestingly this address was subsequently used as the Headquarters of the Women's Freedom League formed the following year in 1907.
This leaflet was printed by the socialist publisher Twentieth Century Press founded originally by the Social Democratic Federation as a printer for its journal Justice.
