Votes for Women, A Women's Demonstration at Royal Albert Hall, Thursday, December 9th, 1909
Handbill issued by the Women's Social and Political Union announcing a Suffragette demonstration to be held on Thursday 9th December 1909 in the Royal Albert Hall. The event was organised to welcome Emmmeline Pankhurst back from her successful lecture tour of the USA. Speakers at the event included Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst. Printed in the Suffragette colours of purple and green the handbill also includes Sylvia Pankhurst's trumpeting angel logo. Primarily a fund raising event the flyer includes a list of ticket prices. This meeting raised £2000 to held fund the WSPU 1910 general election campaign. A sell-out was guaranteed not only due to the anticipated speeches by the Pankhursts but also, on this occasion, to the triumphant appearance of the newly released Suffragette prisoner Mary Leigh.
