Dundee Bye-Election. Votes for Women
Campaign flyer issued by the Women's Freedom League relating to the Dundee by-election of 1908. The flyer urges male voters to vote against the Liberal candidate Winston Churchill due to his unwillingness to extract a pledge from the Government to adopt the Women's Enfranchisement Bill currently being debated in Parliament. Despite the efforts of the WFL Winston Churchill easily won the safe Liberal seat.
Pro-female Suffrage organisations adopted a policy of urging electors to vote against the Liberal Government. During by-elections and general elections local branches would campaign vigorously through mass leafleting voters, organising public meetings, arranging for guest speakers from National Headquarters and heckling other candidates to force them to declare their position on votes for women.
