Printed Ephemera — 1906
Votes for Women, Working Women, Come Forward and Demand the Vote!
Printed flyer issued by the Women's Social and Political Union headed 'Working Women, Come Forward and Demand the Vote'. This flyer issued in the first years of the WSPU campaign represents an early policy to engage working class women in the 'Votes for Women' campaign. The flyer outlines reasons why working women would benefit from the right to vote. It was probably published in 1906 to encourage working women from, in particular, East London to attend a meeting at Caxton Hall and a delegation to parliament on 19th February. In the days before the meeting Annie Kenney went repeatedly to Poplar, Limehouse and Canning Town to rouse support and, as an incentive paid the train fare and refreshments for 300 women to travel to Caxton Hall.
The flyer includes the address of Syvlia Pankhurst's lodgings at 45 Park Walk Chelsea used as a London base for the WSPU between 1904 and 1906.
