Toy clown
Mechanical somersaulting toy clown. Comprising a wooden pierrot clown dressed in red cloth with jointed arms & legs and a plaster head painted white & orange. The figure is attached to a wooden base, with a pole and pedal mechanism, through wires extending from the arms. As the wire pedal on the base is depressed, the clown somersaults over the top of the pole. Purchased for one penny (1d) from a London street trader on 21st December 1904.
