Printed Ephemera — 1966
Time
The 15 April 1966 issue of the American magazine ‘Time’ celebrated 'London: The Swinging City'. The cover image, designed by Geoffrey Dickinson, captured scenes of swinging London - a mini Cooper car and miniskirt alongside London's old icons such as bowler hats. A neon cinema sign advertises the latest Michael Caine film Alfie, and Prime Minister Wilson is depicted with a pipe in his mouth and waving a flag.
Inside, the magazine enthused about London’s new mood: 'In a decade dominated by youth, London has burst into bloom. It swings; it is the scene. This spring, as never before in modern times, London is switched on. Ancient elegance and new opulence are all tangled up in a dazzling blur of op and pop. The city is alive with birds (girls) and Beatles, buzzing with mini-cars and telly stars, pulsing with half a dozen separate veins of excitement'.
