Toy drum
Mechanical tinplate drum. The sides of the drum are covered with paper printed in a red, white and blue pattern. Attached to one side is a mechanism that, when turned, causes a metal drum stick to beat against the drum. Purchased by Ernest King for one penny (1d) from a London street trader on 21st May 1904. King, in his catalogue, identifies the item as a 'Japanese War Drum', reflecting public interest in the Russo-Japanese war that was taking place at the time the drum was purchased.
