Coin, nummus AE1
A copper alloy nummus of Emperor Phocas, ruler of the Byzantine Empire, AD 602-610. This coin was minted in Nicomedia (modern day İzmit, Turkey), AD 602-610.
Obv: Phocia standing alongside his wife, the Empress Consort, Leontia. The Emperor holds a globe surmounted by a cross in his right hand and the Empress holds a long transverse cross. Obv inscription: ONFOCA INPER AV. Rev: A large central M. Rev inscription: ANNO in field, NIKOB in exergue.
