Printed Ephemera — 1912
Metropolitan Police District to wit. Take Notice
Bail notice issued to the militant suffragette Florence Haig with reference to her trial at Newington Court on 12 March 1912. Haig was arrested on 1 March for breaking shop windows in Oxford Street. Her action, part of the Votes for Women window-smashing campaign, resulted in a sentence of four months' imprisonment in Holloway. Like many of her fellow 200 suffragette prisoners imprisoned for the same crime, Haig protested against her sentence by going on hunger strike and, as a result, was released after a few days.
