Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Severus Alexander, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 222-235. The back of the coin depicts Providentia, the female personification of foreseeing. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 231-235.
Obv: Laureate bust of Severus Alexander, facing right, left shoulder draped. Obv inscription: [IMP] ALEXANDER PIVS AVG. Rev: Providentia, standing front, head left, holding two corn-ears over a modius in her right hand and a cornucopia in the left. Rev inscription: PROVIDENTIA AVG, SC in field.
