Post-Medieval — Early-mid 13th century
Miniature jug
A complete toy jug with a geometric pattern around the neck and vertical ribbing on the body. There is fine hatching on the base. This toy jug imitates full-sized pottery jugs that were available at the time (this one resembles London-type ware jugs in the north French style). The ceramic jugs would have been used for serving wine, ale or beer, and for general household use. Reference: Forsyth, H. & Egan, G. (2005): Toys, Trifles & Trinkets. Base metal miniatures from London 1200 to 1800, pg. 290, cat. no. 8.126.
