Miniature baluster jug
Toy baluster jug made from pewter. This toy jug imitates full-sized pottery jugs that were available at the time (such as London-type ware or Surrey whiteware). It has been cast in one piece and has a flaring rim, cylindrical neck and pear-shaped body. It is decorated with horizontal bands, diagonal hatching, guilloche, gadrooning and vertical ribbing. The full-sized jugs would have been used for serving wine, ale or beer, and for general household use. Reference: Forsyth, H. & Egan, G. (2005): Toys, Trifles & Trinkets. Base metal miniatures from London 1200 to 1800, pg. 289, cat. no. 8.123.
