Watch & chatelaine

Improving our records

We're actively looking for ways to improve our object records, including using artificial intelligence to generate alt text for some object images. If you think we've made a mistake or have information about an object that you'd like to share, you can fill in the details below.

Our collections contain objects and information which some people may consider sensitive or offensive. Some of the text was written in past decades and reflects the language and social attitudes of the time. Find out more

Gold and enamel hunter cased cylinder watch with chatelaine. Hunter case shows painted enamel scenes of blue guilloche enamel with a cherub. The back has a yellow hat with a red ribbon and green inside. The front is a Greek/Trojan helmet with a garland around and a feather plum on the top. White enamel dial, blued steel hands. Circular movement with four tapered pillars. With the watch a chatelaine with belt hook in gold engraved on both sides with a grotesque mask. The hook numbered '5690' and punched with a boar's (?) head. Three gold chains support an oval painted enamel gold plate with two doves on one side and a flower on the other. Around the bottom a semi-ring of pearls. Three gold chains support a rectangular plate with painted enamels of two doves on one side and a flower on the other. Four gold chains hold decorative pendant in blue and gold with wire and pearl pendants. Right hand pendant now missing. Two chains in the centre support the watch hook which opens and has a spring-loaded safety locking ring.
