Earrings, memorial earrings
Pair of gold and woven hairwork earrings. Two hairwork globes pendant from gold hinged fittings. There are French 'ram's head' warranty marks on the hooks, indicating that the earrings were made between 1819 and 1838. Locks of woven hair were incorporated in jewellery as reminders of loved ones or the dead.
These earrings were given by Miss Caroline Nias in 1926, as part of a collection of jewellery, in memory of her mother, Lady Nias.
