Social History
Boxing glove
In the early 1900s, London produced several boxing world champions including George 'Digger' Stanley (World Bantamweight Champion 1910), Bill Ladbury (World Flyweight Champion 1913) and Teddy Baldock (World Bantamweight Champion 1927). Their success helped to popularise the sport with spectators and encouraged many young working-class Londoners to join boxing clubs.
The London firm J Rose & Son of London Road made these boxing gloves.
